Name: Bellara Lutare
Door: Door Pass (Dominant)

Canon: Dragon Age: Veilguard
Canon Point: Just as the eclipse is beginning

Age: 31-32
Appearance: Here and here

History: wiki
Bellara's background is largely unknown. We know that she does not come from a "clan" background typical of Dalish elves, because she has an actual surname. She had one younger brother, Cyrian, and they seem to be the only family each other had. Both siblings were basically obsessed with magic and elvhen history, leading Bellara to join the Veil Jumpers because she wanted to help people, and Cyrian to embark on a journal to find a specific artifact without regard for the dangers. Unfortunately, their interaction with an artifact led to tragedy. Bellara was unable to successfully stabilize it and Cyrian was "pulled in" to its force. She had thought he died, but he was "saved" by a Forgotten One (the elvish equivalent of hell/the underworld gods basically). Although she was able to convince him to stray from that path, he dies in an attempt to stop this forgotten god. Bellara is of course heartbroken, but feels she has some closure at last and is able to move on toward the battle for Thedas.

Personality:
Positive Trait:
Plucky — Bellara can hardly be contained by one positive adjective, so a word like "plucky", which contains layers, is perfect. Energetic and friendly, the Veil Jumper mage is a tried and true ally who has the drive and compassion to help save lives. There is a lot in this small package of an elf, as she shows bravery even in the face of adversity and strife. She has experienced tragedy in her life but endures through any pain with a warm heart and oodles of courage. A recurring line in their canon is "Whatever it takes", and Bellara fully embodies this. No matter what happens, she is resilient and armored by a spirited determination to do the right thing. The biggest example of this is if you choose her to fix some wards during the last battles, she will be captured by Elgar'nan and eventually blighted. Rather than give into despair, she presses on and is able to briefly control the terrible affliction in order to give her allies the upper hand. This is an incredible feat, as it is extremely rare and unlikely that any will survive the blight, let alone function with their own free will. Bellara doesn't think twice about what could happen, because she knows who she is and what needs done.

Negative Trait:
Hyperfocused — Although Bellara mentions that her brother Cyrian was her anchor who kept her focused, she does have a tendency (it appears to run in the family) to get wrapped up in her work or a problem needing solved. Not to say she has a one track mind, but rather she has several burners going at once, and she's constantly thinking of them. Atoning for her brother (which later turns into saving him or stopping him), finding and fixing the Nadas Dirthalen (an ancient archive full of lost elvhen history), and of course helping Rook to defeat the escaped Evanuris before they blight the entire world — Bellara ponders these matters almost to the point of obsession. Sometimes she is difficult to follow in conversations because she will even get lost in her thoughts and begin to ramble. She mentions that she has difficultly making and maintaining personal relationships because of this. She gets so wrapped up in what has her attention that she can completely forget about other things that matter. If she has a task or a problem on her hands, she will not let it rest until it is finished. With the way she will boldly refuse to back down from her pursuit of these answers, it can be impossible to break her focus. Even among the Veil Jumpers, Bellara could disappear for days on end rather frequently, to the point that they decided that after a week a party would be sent to find her. Probably because if she hadn't gotten herself hurt, she forgot to eat or sleep. This excess concentration she expends on her fixations can not only be physically taxing, but emotionally as well. Bellara is often held by intense thoughts which is where the borderline obsession comes from. She can't stop thinking about it, can't stop worrying about whether or not she has the right answer. Her inate bravery keeps her standing, but even she comes close to breaking under the weight.

Negative Trait:
Insouciant — Along with her resilience and courage, and her penchant for focusing too hard on certain things, Bellara can have an almost careless disregard for danger. Although she claims when you meet her that she needs a moment to process everything you tell her, she actually appears to move on rather quickly. In this meeting, she is so focused on breaking everyone free of a bubble in the Veil that she regards danger like Ogres and the potential for deadly explosions with a "It's just that kind of day" sort of attitude. Her entire specialty among the Veil Jumpers is fixing and stabilizing wild, ancient magic which is unfathomably dangerous to those who don't know what they're doing. Often she even appears to only guess what she needs to do in order to fix a thing. She is usually right, but could probably stand to be a little less nonchalant about potential consequences. This casual lack of concern is probably a coping method, but it does help her spring to action without hesitation when needed.

Negative Trait:
Contrite — Although Bellara almost always has an upbeat, uplifting personality, she is plagued by grief and guilt. She believes that the mysterious "disappearance" (and what all assume was death) of her younger brother is entirely her fault. A large part of her motivation for saving people from that tragic day forward is to atone for a mistake she feels like she shouldn't have made. She hopes that by someday doing enough, her brother will forgive her and she'll let him. Even if at times she agrees it's irrational, she can't be deterred from her remorse and the need to atone for it. Some of her actions are entirely driven by the guilt she feels. She insists that she and a small group of Veil Jumpers check their artifact vaults to make sure the items there are contained and safe. When someone questions the necessity of all the steps she takes, Bellara gets defensive and doubles down on the task. For most of their journey in canon, she does not believe that she is worthy of that forgiveness yet.

Powers and Abilities: Bellara is a mage who specializes in ancient elven magic, as well as electricity. She has a magic gauntlet that is able to transform into a bow that she can manipulate to fire arrows. The gauntlet also makes magic a little more cooperative to handle. Of course all of her magic will be weakened although she alone does not have worldbreaking powers as is.

Aside from this, Bellara's magic skills on her own are impressive. She is considered the "best Veil Jumper" their leaders have, and a genius in fixing magical items. As such she possesses a keen intuition and is quick on her feet too. Even without the artifact, she is skilled in archery which is somewhat unusual for a mage.

Inventory: Her gauntlet, her journal + pen, Humming Curiosity ("An exquisite gemstone extracted from a powerful relic. It sits well in the hand when thinking.")
